Flights from the UK to Alberta, Canada range from about 9h-13h. If you’re flying out of London, you can enjoy a flight at the shorter end of the spectrum, especially if you’re flying into Calgary. If you’re departing from Edinburgh and flying to Edmonton, on the other hand, your flight is likely to be nearer the 13-hour mark. In addition to departure and arrival city, your flight time will also be affected by the number of stopovers and the length of each, if any, layover.
You can get a direct flight to Calgary, Alberta from London Heathrow Airport (LHW). Direct flights are serviced by British Airways, Air Canada, WestJet, and Air Transat. If you’re flying out of other major airports in the UK other than London Heathrow, such as Manchester Airport (MAN) or Glasgow International Airport (GLA), you can book flights that have only one or two stopovers along the way. To get from Edmonton airport to Edmonton city centre, you can take a taxi for a flat rate of about £34, or a limousine for a flat rate of about £41, should the mood strike. Rideshare programmes like Uber and TappCar are also available. For a more affordable option, the 747 local bus operates between the airport and Edmonton city centre for just about £3 one way. Skyshuttle transports you from the airport to your Edmonton hotel, although the price and duration vary.
Alberta is filled with scenic and exciting attractions. West of Calgary, you’ll encounter the town of Banff and its stunning Banff National Park. Here, you can mountain vistas, ski adventures, lakeside picnics, and glimpses of wildlife in their natural environment. Near the border of Montana, The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park is home to the historic Prince of Wales Hotel and beautiful views of the Rockies. And of course, urban havens are found in the eclectic cities of Calgary and Edmonton.
British citizens do need a valid passport when travelling to Alberta, Canada, although you will not typically need a visa for short-term visits. You will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) when travelling by air to Canada.
