Cheap Flights to Belize City

Belize City overview

When is the best time to fly to Belize City?

In the heart of the summer, between June and October, Belize City is a great place to visit and experience some amazing heat (temperatures peak at 31°C) and to cool off beside the sea. Visitors are more likely to find cheap flights to Belize City and lower hotel rates, due to the increase in rainfall over these months.

September, however, can be a great time to book a flight to Belize City if you want to see the city in Carnival mode: the glorious floats, dances, musical bands, and singers are like nothing else on earth! For real party-goers, the celebrations continue late into the night at the BTL Memorial Park with an all-night outdoor concert, food and drink stalls and plenty of seaside dancing. Although Carnival time falls outside of the most expensive time to visit, prices may see a slight increase around the event, so book in advance to get the best deal.

November to May is generally considered to be peak season in the city. During these months the climate is at its most pleasant and the rain dies down a little. The driest months of February, March and April are particularly popular so expect to pay increased rates for accommodation and airfares.

Belize City overview

Travellers take flights to Belize City for its perfect blend of natural beauty and metropolitan sights and adventures. It is the largest city in Belize, situated just 5 miles (8 km) from the Caribbean Sea and is home to the annual riot of colour that is the Belize Carnival and filled with fascinating museums and galleries. The Image Factory is an innovative art gallery, packed with examples of Belizean art and cultural artefacts. The Museum of Belize is also well worth a visit and it is conveniently located right opposite the wonderful Maritime Museum. It is housed in an old prison, which dates from the days when Belize formed part of British Honduras. This unique setting provides an evocative atmosphere for exploring the history and culture of the city, ranging from Maya artefacts dating back three millennia to items relating to the building's history as a prison. Belize is home to several distinct ethnic groups, and this accredited national museum is the perfect place to come and celebrate this diversity.

Getting around Belize City

Using public buses or hitchhiking are the cheapest options when it comes to getting around this city. There are also several tour buses taking you to all of the key sights (such as the City Zoo). For an unforgettable journey, explore the Caribbean cays by water taxi!

Getting from the Airport to the City

Travellers can book flight to Belize City Municipal Airport (TZA) or Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE). You can reach Belize City from both of these airports by airport shuttle, or by taxi. However, public buses (rather than shuttles) are certainly the cheapest way to travel from the airport. Public buses are designed to reflect the locals' income whilst shuttles reflect extortionate tourist prices! If you are feeling adventures, why not do as locals do and hitchhike? This is incredibly common in Belize City, and people of all ages will thumb a lift to get from A to B.
