When to fly
The rainy season is May through to October, with September and October being the wettest months, however, the rain is usually brief and followed by sunshine. Hurricane season is around June to November, however, they are very rare. This period is also the low season and if you don’t mind chancing the rain, can be a great time to get cheap flights to Montego Bay. Resort rates usually drop during these months as well and you’ll still be able to enjoy the Caribbean climate with some lovely warm weather and sunny days.
The peak season throughout Jamaica and Montego Bay, runs from mid-December to mid-April. During this time hotels are booked months in advance, prices are higher and the area is packed full of tourists. Other notable busy times are holidays, such as Christmas, Easter and Spring Break. If you definitely want to visit Montego Bay during this period, make sure you book your flights and accommodation well in advance to get a better deal.
Montego Bay also boasts a whole host of travel-worthy festivals, throughout the year. October hosts the Soul in the Sun Music Festival, featuring R&B and Soul legends of the 80s and 90s. July and August are the hottest months, with temperatures on average between 23 and 32 degrees Celsius. The coldest months of January through March, differ only slightly, with temperatures generally between high 20s to 30 degrees.
Getting from the airport
Most travellers take a flight to Sangster International Airport (MBJ), which is an international airport located around 3 miles (5 km) east of Montego Bay. Many resorts and hotels organise transport from the airport. Taxis and car hire companies are also available.
