Peak season:
The peak season lasts pretty much all-year so you might struggle to find really cheap flights to the Dominican Republic. That said the busiest months do tend to spread from December to April when the temperatures are more tolerable. There are also many, many festivals and events which take place over the course of the year so factor this into your timing as they’ll increase the price of your flight tickets. January 21st is the Virgen de Altagracia. It’s the most important religious day on the Dominican calendar and is celebrated by the whole country. Every Sunday in February sees the carnival celebrated, before wrapping up in a big party on the 27th. Easter is very popular too and accommodation becomes pricey so make sure you plan ahead and secure your flights to the Dominican Republic and your hotel early.
Off season:
October through to May sees a lot of rain hit the north coast and June to November is classed as the hurricane season. Due to this you’ll find the cheapest flights to the Dominican Republic easier to find but don’t expect to find any absolute bargains as tourism is still pretty ripe, even during the windy seasons.
If you can secure your flight tickets after Easter then you give yourself a better chance of finding cheap flights to the Dominican Republic as they do get costly beforehand. If you have the luxury of flexibility then you will find cheap flights to the Dominican Republic much easier than if you’re fixed to a school holiday or specific month of the year. November typically has the best reduced prices but the conditions when you arrive might not be ideal. Knowing which side of the plane to sit on does vary depending on the wind conditions, which can vary a lot. Ideally you’ll want to try to sit on the left-hand side of the plane though and if everything works in your favour then you’ll have some spectacular views as you approach.

Air France, Delta, American Airline and Aeromexico are the main airlines that provide cheap flights to the Dominican Republic. Deciding which airline to travel with will usually come down to the price of the flight tickets. Depending on your budget you’ll most likely want to fly with whoever offers the cheapest flights to the Dominican Republic. Whilst none of the airlines are necessarily premium and world-class, they all do provide a similar level of comfort and service so once you’ve decided on where to visit and when to go, you can just compare a few airlines and decide on the price and your own preference.
Once you’ve purchased your flights to the Dominican Republic you’re best looking into hotels which provide airport transfers either included in the overall price or for a small fee. You can also pre-arrange for a car or shuttle to collect you from the airport too. Failing that you’re only real option is to jump into a taxi. The prices of these vary depending on which resort you are going too but make sure you agree on the fare before you set off and if anyone tries to ‘help’ you take your luggage to your vehicle, kindly refuse several times and they should leave you be. If you don’t fancy any of the above then the cheapest option you could do is get a bus. They aren’t usually found inside the airport but you can find them on the roads. They are cheap but you might struggle to find your way properly without researching the right lines in advance.
There is a very unreliable bus service available, but it’s very infrequent and difficult to get so it might be best avoiding this unless you’re an experienced traveler who has booked flights to the Dominican Republic before. You’re best option would be to get a taxi. They are easy to find but be warned that they do try and cram as many people into a cab as possible so your journey might not be that comfortable. There is also a new metro system in place which you could grab a taxi to and then jump on the metro for the rest of the journey.
