Cheap Flights to Punta Cana

Punta Cana overview

When is the best time to fly to Punta Cana?

Peak Season:

The most popular time to visit Punta Cana is from December through February. During this time the weather is lovely and warm, with average temperatures in the 20s and early 30s C. Crowds flock to the area to spend time on the beautiful beaches and it gets even busier around Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Carnival in February. Make sure you book well in advance to avoid disappointment as accommodation can be hard to come by. In addition, flights to Punta Cana and hotel rates will be most expensive during this period.

Off Season:

Punta Cana’s off season runs from June through November. This period is the hurricane season, with storms being the worst and most frequent in the months of August, September and October. It is advised not to travel to the area during this time as the weather can, at best, see you spending your holiday indoors and, at worst, see you having to cut your trip short. If you don’t mind the wet weather, then this is the best time to book cheap flights to Punta Cana and get lower hotel rates. Be aware, some resorts may close down during the off season for annual renovations.

Shoulder Season:

March to May is the shoulder season which experiences sunny skies, average high temperatures in the high 20s C and fewer crowds. Plan your trip during these months, as you may be able to find cheaper airfares than the peak season and special rates for accommodation.

Punta Cana overview

Located on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is fast becoming one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean. The area, though still dusty and desolate in parts, is the site of some major resort developments and continues to see an influx of new investors.  But what most people care about when they book flights to Punta Cana is a holiday on the glorious beaches. Featuring 20 miles of white sands set against a backdrop of palm trees, the Punta Cana beaches are second-to-none in the Caribbean. Spend your trip relaxing in the sun-drenched private beach areas of your chosen resort hotel, and dine at night under the stars with the Caribbean ocean as your backdrop. Whatever your reason for a holiday in Punta Cana, it's sure to be a relaxed trip, steeped in serenity.

Getting from the Airport to the City

Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is located to the north of the city. Most major car rental companies are represented at the airport.

Punta Cana insider information

  • Although the inspiration for your holiday in Punta Cana might be the white sandy beaches of the Dominican Republic, while you're here you should make the most of your trip and explore some other parts of the area. Manati Park is a nice day trip that features performing dolphins and sea lions, and an authentic replica of an ancient Taino Indian village.
  • Hit the disco at the Barcelo Bávaro Beach, Golf & Casino Resort. The Bávaro Disco is one of the hottest dance clubs in Punta Cana. Don your favourite sexy dress and put on a strappy sandals for a night of salsa (and sexy) dancing under the stars.
