Located close to Singapore, Johor Bahru acts as a gateway to Malaysia. This colourful and bustling city offers a vibrant aura, great links to neighbouring regions and a sense of the exotic. The LEGOLAND Malaysia resort is quite famous for its interesting rooms and pool area and must be visited at least once, even if only to marvel at is unique décor.
This is a very central city and offers big city highlights like great shopping malls and markets as well as good quality eateries serving traditional and international cuisine. It also offers a taste of history and culture in the form of the famous India mosque with its glass domes and minarets. An assortment of bars, clubs and entertainment centres are active late at night for some vibrant socialising.
For nature lovers the Pulai Waterfall makes a great day trip or you can relax at Stulang Laut Beach, Lido Beach, stroll through the markets at Johor Lama or travel through Endau Rompin National Park. Families with young children can enjoy the Johor Zoo and Aquarium or Hello Kitty Town, or take a trip across the causeway into Singapore. The Kukup Fishing Village is a nice day trip where you can view a village built on stilts and try local seafood dishes.
The city has a tropical, rainforest climate with no dry season. Temperatures vary from 22 to 32 degrees during the year, seldom falling below 22 degrees or above 34 degrees. The warm, humid season extends from March to June when temperatures are around 32 degrees. The cold season lasts from December to January. During this time the temperatures are below 30 degrees but it is still quite warm in the city as it rarely gets colder than 22 degrees. September is the coldest month but this features a balmy temperature range of 22 to 31 degrees, so it hardly qualifies as uncomfortable.
Off season rates are likely to be cheaper, and the city less crowded. Peak season runs from April to October, while the monsoon season is low season in the area. Monsoon season runs from November through February and it can be unpleasant and stormy in the city. However, if you take advantage of the beginning and end of off-peak times, and don’t mind a little rain, you may find reasonable weather for sightseeing and much lower rates than during peak times. Festive season times, school holidays and event weekends are likely to cost much more.
