Peak Season
The peak tourism season usually takes place from June to September, although the local summer season is from April to June. Peak season temperatures are approximately 20°C. Be sure to book hotel rooms and flights to Queretaro as soon as possible to get the best rates. The city is steeped in Aztec history, and visitors will be able to take part in various celebrations such as the Huapango Style Music and Dance Competition. There are even celebrations for the United States’ Independence Day.
Off Season
From December to March, the off season is in full effect. Temperatures are still around 8-15°C, however there are few events due to the declining tourist numbers.
Shoulder Season
The shoulder season typically takes place during the Queretaro Summer, and will typically be the season when most festivals and events take place. Easter Week celebrations and the International Cheese and Wine Festival, which includes plenty of street performances, music, and feasting, are not to be missed. It should be noted that although these celebrations attract large crowds of revellers, valuables should be secured as thefts can be quite high during the street performances.
Located in central Mexico, Queretaro is a city which is steeped in Aztec and Spanish history. Queretaro was founded between 1529 and 1531, and marked the northern border of Spanish territory in Central America. Today, the city is full of modern attractions such as shopping streets, restaurants, and bars.
Queretaro is the ideal place to visit for culture and history enthusiasts, as there are still locations within and around the city which dates back to the Spanish arrival and Aztec period. Sightseers can hike around La Pena de Bernal, a natural rock formation around the city. The Museum of Arts of Queretaro holds many prized works of art from the region, while the building itself is a work of art. There is also a wealth of churches around the city, which were built by the Spanish to convert the local populace to Catholocism.
Many modern attractions are available throughout the city, such as the Naturalexa and Antea Lifestyle Centre department stores for anyone in need of shopping. Experience authentic Mexican cuisine at one of the many restaurants throughout the city, or enjoy a relaxing evening meal at a cafe after hours.
Many of the attractions within the city can be reached by foot. However, to reach most of the historical sites there are tour bus services available. Avoid local taxi companies if possible, as many drivers will seek to take advantage of tourists who are unfamiliar with the city and language.
The closest airport to the city is Querétaro International Airport (QRO). Shuttle bus services and taxis are available for direct transport to the city. Car rental kiosks throughout the airport also offer a selection of vehicles.
